Rinse and slice 1 lb fresh okra into ½-inch pieces.
In a bowl, whisk 1 cup buttermilk with a dash of hot sauce.
Soak okra in the mixture for 10 minutes.
In another bowl, combine 1 cup cornmeal, ½ cup flour, 1 tsp paprika, salt, and pepper.
Drain okra and dredge in the cornmeal mixture until well coated.
Heat oil in a cast-iron skillet to 350°F (175°C).
Fry okra in small batches, 2–3 minutes, until golden and crispy.
Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
Season lightly with extra salt while hot.
